LEO is a non-profit organization that promotes diversity in law enforcement and corrections in the State of Minnesota.  Professionals and students work together through LEO to develop a positive future for these professions.  LEO offers individuals an opportunity to apply for scholarship dollars that can assist them in pursuing their academic education.  Get involved!

Our Mission is to:

  • Promote and increase cultural diversity in law enforcement and corrections careers;
  • Provide education to communities of color and women regarding career opportunities within law enforcement and corrections;
  • Assist law enforcement and corrections agencies in the successful recruitment of these populations;
  • To provide financial assistance in the form of scholarships to eligible applicants interested in pursuing careers in law enforcement or corrections.  Scholarship monies are used to fund eligible applicants' related training and education expenses.

The First Annual Minnesota Youth Leadership Academy (MYLA) at the Minnesota State Patrol Trooper Academy held at Camp Ripley in Little Falls, Minnesota, turned out so well that next year’s curriculum is already in the works.

This one-week residential program came at no cost to the students — young men ages 14-16 — and provided a secured learning environment for lessons in leadership, fellowship, responsible citizenship, health, community service, and life coping skills such as conflict resolution and anger management. Because this program is culturally specific, African American young men were targeted for the Minnesota Academy, with 17 young men in attendance in July 2007.
